Assistant Management Accountant
Location: Colchester, Essex
Salary: £38k – £42k

Assure Personnel Ltd are currently recruiting an Assistant Management Accountant on behalf of our client based in Colchester. Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Assistant Management Accountant to join our dynamic finance team. This is an essential role, supporting the finance function by ensuring efficiency, organisation, and accuracy in our day-to-day operations. You will play a crucial role in the month-end process, helping to prepare management accounts, analyse financial data, and maintain robust financial controls.

Key Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Finance Director and Management Accountant, your main duties will include:

Core Accounting & Reporting:

  • Perform daily bank reconciliations.
  • Assist in the timely production of financial statements, including departmental Profit & Loss accounts and monthly management accounts.
  • Calculate and reconcile accruals and prepayments.
  • Manage intercompany recharges and ensure timely invoice approvals from managers to meet month-end deadlines.
  • Help prepare and submit VAT and Aggregate Levy calculations and payments.

Fixed Assets & General Ledger:

  • Maintain and update fixed asset registers.
  • Assist with the compilation and reconciliation of fixed assets and Hire Purchase records.
  • Calculate the plant program and import associated journals.
  • Provide support to both the purchase ledger and sales ledger departments as needed.

Compliance & Operations:

  • Liaise effectively with directors, managers, employees, clients, and suppliers.
  • Assist with ONS (Office for National Statistics) surveys.
  • Manage company phone accounts (EE/Vodafone).
  • Provide training and support to other team members when required.
  • Adhere to company Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality Control policies and procedures.

  • We are looking for a proactive individual with strong technical skills and a collaborative attitude.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in an accounting role, ideally working towards an accounting qualification (e.g., AAT, CIMA, ACCA trainee).
  • Technical Ability: Proven core accounting knowledge and technical skills.
  • Software Proficiency: Excellent Microsoft Excel skills are mandatory; experience with SAGE 200 is highly beneficial.
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate financial information clearly to both finance and non-finance managers at all levels of the business.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience within the Construction Industry is a significant advantage
